Feeling God All Around You

“As a mother comforts her child, so I will comfort you; you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.” (Isaiah 66:13)

Wendy A. Miller

A young girl had been feeling quite alone, as she had no friends that lived nearby.

It was summer, so school was out and she wasn’t able to see her friends during the week as she had during the school year. She was crying when the rains had begun to fall upon her as she walked alone in the countryside. The rains lasted only a short while.

The sun broke through the clouds to caress the young girls arms and dry the dampness from her hair and clothing. She felt wrapped in an envelope of warmth as the sun continued to shine upon her. A gentle breeze began to blow and she felt it brush against her cheek as it continued on across the meadow.

She felt strangely warmed from within as well, yet still felt the loneliness of having no friend beside her to share her day with. This young girl looked up to the heavens and asked, “God, why do I feel so alone? Why can’t I have someone to share my day with?”

God replied, “My child, I have been with you this whole time. I felt the loneliness you were feeling and cried with you through the gentle rains that fell upon you. I hugged you with the warmth of my embrace through the rays of sunshine I brought after the rains to let you know I understand how you feel and to let you know you are cared for. I touched your cheek with my breeze as I gave you a kiss to let you know you are loved and are not alone. I will always be with you, wherever you go. I love you more than you can ever imagine and nothing will ever change that. You will always have a friend beside you, for I am that friend.”
