The sad but poignant tale of a mechanical beggar in a store window who is greatly cared for and a real beggar on the street who is not.
It was the last shopping day before Christmas. Actually, it was the last day before Christmas but this town marked all time according to shopping days.
The department store downtown had all the mechanical dolls moving in their display windows and all the store windows together told you a story.
